Analysis and conclusion
In the 1950s, the Internet was created to facilitate daily functions. Since then, it has eased the lives of millions in many ways. With the creation of MySpace, Facebook, and hundreds of other social networking sites, people have been connected with their past loved ones, old friends, and potential employers. These connections are extremely beneficial and can improve the quality of one's life. But what is usually overlooked is the fact that there are people who cannot reap these benefits. Having a variety of disabilities, such as being deaf or blind, can hinder one’s use of the Internet.
So- whose job is it to fix this problem? Is it the responsibility of the disabled to deal with their misfortune? Is it on the shoulders of web developers and advertisers? Or, should government be intervening in this situation?
Personally, I think the answer is that all of the preceding groups should be working to ensure the fairness of the Internet. In the first place, site developers and advertisers should be doing their best to make their web content as fair, non-biased, and accessible as possible for all. Secondly, the disabled should be working towards it as well, and not expecting the entire Internet to be catered toward them. They are able to purchase or download many softwares that can ease their use of the Internet. Additionally, government should be regulating all of these practices. It may not be their first priority, but it definitely should be a priority.
